Week 1: Hold onto your pins!!

So Hello people of the internet! Welcome to my blog where I will document my journey from useless-at-repairing-holes to the ability to make a patchwork blanket. Now if you consider this it really is a big journey to undertake. I am aiming to do this in a 6 week class I have undertaken each Thursday evening alongside my Granny. What inspired me to do this? Probably a good excuse to escape dissertation work I should really be doing  I mean, well really it's cos i'm quite creative but am really bad at drawing. I can cut in straight lines though so that's a starting point, Right??

So when i enrolled in this class the lovely shop owner who takes the class advised me to do her "beginners blanket" for this there is no written pattern, it all lives in the teachers head so do not ask me what kind of blanket it is. The first step was to pick my fabrics. Here they are!

They are very bright aren't they? please excuse the fact that they are already cut up, I forgot to picture them when I bought them!

The large squares (Multicolour hearts and teapots are 6.5 inches, these form blocks on their own, then the strips in the middles will become 3.5 inch squares, and four of these joined together will be inbetween the large squares. Clear as mud? Good.

The border will then be the pink backround with white spot. At least that is the current plan! Everytime I go into her shop something else catches my eye!!

So in week 1 I managed to cut all my pieces, and start sewing my strips. I even know how to thread my donated (Granny's 30 year old) sewing machine, Quite a successful evening all round I think you'll agree!
